Story & Significance

Why Morgaon is worshipped first

Morgaon—also called Mayureshwar—sits on the banks of the Karha river. Tradition says devotees begin and end the Ashtavinayak pilgrimage here to complete the spiritual circuit.

Legend: Lord Ganesha manifested as Mayureshwar, riding a peacock to defeat the demon Sindhurasur, restoring peace to the region.
  • Architecture: Fort-like walls with four gates for Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha; a unique Mughal-influenced layout.
  • Idol: Ganesha faces north; consorts Riddhi & Siddhi accompany him; Nandi, Mushak, and a peacock guard the precincts.
